The National Council of Student Unions (NACOSU) has commended the government for introducing initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of students in learning institutions across Zambia.
NACOSU Secretary for University Affairs Brian Malambo cited free education, increased meal allowances, and the distribution of sanitary pads to female learners as some of the measures benefiting students.
Mr Malambo was speaking during an engagement meeting with students at Makasa Kapasa University in Chinsali District.
He also encouraged students to take advantage of government agricultural programmes by venturing into crop and livestock production, saying agriculture remains a key driver of Zambia’s economy.
Meanwhile, NACOSU Acting Chairperson Brian Chinza and Copperbelt University School of Medicine President Bright Banda also praised what they described as key achievements of the United Party for National Development (UPND), including free education, the increased Constituency Development Fund (CDF), and improved meal allowances.
The student leaders have since endorsed President Hakainde Hichilema for re-election in the August 13 general election, which is being contested by 14 presidential candidates.
