The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has with immediate effect lifted the suspension of campaign activities for the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) in Kaputa Constituency of Kaputa District.
ECZ Chief Electoral Officer Brown Kasaro says the decision follows confirmation from the Zambia Police Service that the political situation in the constituency has normalised.
Mr. Kasaro has commended the Zambia Police Service, political party leaders, stakeholders and members of the public for their efforts in restoring peace and order in Kaputa.
He has reminded all participating political parties, candidates and their supporters to conduct their campaigns peacefully and strictly adhere to the Electoral Code of Conduct and all other applicable electoral laws.
Mr. Kasaro says the Commission will continue to closely monitor campaign activities across the country and will not hesitate to enforce its statutory powers under the Electoral Process Act and the Electoral Code of Conduct against any political party or candidate found engaging in acts of violence or any conduct that undermines the integrity of the electoral process.
He has further called on all stakeholders to remain committed to promoting peaceful campaigns and ensuring that the remainder of the campaign period is conducted in an atmosphere that allows voters to freely exercise their democratic right without fear.
