France captain Kylian Mbappé has become the FIFA World Cup’s all-time leading goalscorer after scoring twice in France’s 6-4 defeat to England in the third-place playoff.
Despite Mbappé’s record-breaking performance, England secured the victory to finish third at the tournament. Bukayo Saka scored a hat-trick for England, while Declan Rice, Ezri Konsa and Jude Bellingham also found the back of the net.
Mbappé’s two goals saw him surpass the previous World Cup scoring record, cementing his place as the competition’s all-time leading goalscorer.
Although France finished fourth, the striker’s achievement was one of the major individual milestones of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
