Campaign posters for Mansa West independent parliamentary candidate Gibson Mwewa have been vandalised by unknown people, just a day after they were mounted in various parts of the constituency.
The incident comes as political campaigns continue to intensify ahead of the 13 August 2026 General Election, with candidates increasing their visibility through campaign materials and community engagements.
Supporters of Mr. Mwewa have condemned the act, describing it as unfortunate and undemocratic. They say the vandalism has imposed an unnecessary financial burden on the candidate, who will now have to replace the damaged campaign posters.
Meanwhile, some Mansa residents have appealed to law enforcement agencies to intensify security patrols and ensure campaign materials belonging to all candidates are protected.
They say safeguarding campaign materials is key to promoting peaceful, free and fair elections.
And Namwandwe Ward aspiring councillor Nelly Matota has also condemned the vandalism, saying such acts undermine democratic participation.
She further claimed that the incident suggests those contesting against the Gibson Mwewa team are unsettled by the growing support the independent candidate is receiving.
