The Government has warned citizens and public servants against the unauthorised recording, publication and sharing of private conversations and meetings, reminding the public that the Cyber Crimes Act No. 4 of 2025 is fully in force and that offenders risk facing legal consequences.
The Ministry of Information and Media notes that the growing misuse of digital platforms to record and circulate private communications without the knowledge or consent of those involved has become a source of concern, as such actions have the potential to violate privacy rights, damage reputations, spread misinformation and erode public trust.
Citizens are being urged to familiarise themselves with the provisions of the Cyber Crimes Act and to exercise sound judgment before recording, sharing or publishing private communications on any digital platform. Public servants have also been reminded to uphold professionalism, integrity, confidentiality and accountability in the course of their duties.
The Government has further emphasised that no individual is above the law, adding that where there is credible evidence of an alleged offence, law enforcement agencies have a statutory duty to act fairly, impartially and in accordance with the law.
Government has since called on all citizens to respect the privacy of others, use digital platforms responsibly and comply with the Cyber Crimes Act, stressing that ignorance of the law does not exempt anyone from responsibility.
