The Lusaka Forestry Department has intercepted over 400 bags of illegal charcoal from Mpika and Mpongwe Districts en route to Lusaka.
Principal Forestry Officer Cathrine Zulu tells Diamond News the five trucks were intercepted last weekend while in transit to Lusaka where various markets were to be supplied with the illegal commodity.
Ms. Zulu says most of the trucks seized had no proper documentation to trace their business.
She adds the department notes concern over the rampant illegal charcoal trade that is averting revenue collection and is a detriment to the environment that fuels Climate Change.
