Zimbabwe’s Vice President Retired General Dr. Constantino Chiwenga says visionary health Infrastructure development is critical to meeting universal health coverage for the growing population of Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Speaking in Mambwe District in Eastern Province on a tour of the state-of-the-art Mambwe District Hospital Infrastructure, Dr. Chiwenga says Zimbabwe has for a long time been facing challenges of sustainable infrastructure to meet the demand of the medical services.

He says Mambwe District Hospital with a bed capacity of 80 built by NMS Infrastructure is a clear example of sustainable infrastructure which Zimbabwe will have to emulate.

And Eastern Province Medical Health Director Mathews Ng’ambi says Mambwe District Hospital will offer advanced health services which may not be offered by the highest referral hospital in Eastern Province.

Dr. Ng’ambi says plans to turn the hospital into a Centre of Excellence are underway so as to help with orthopedic cases.

Eastern Province Minister Peter Phiri says the construction of the first ever district hospital is a game changer for the people of Malambo who have struggled for so long to access quality medical services.
