Lima Member of Parliament Kelvin Kaunda is set to spend a fifth night in police custody as efforts to secure his release on bail remain unsuccessful.
His lawyer, Emmanuel Kaluba, has confirmed that his client has been in police custody since his apprehension on Thursday, October 15, 2026.
Mr Kaluba says the defence has been attempting to secure Mr Kaunda’s release on bail but has yet to be granted the opportunity, despite having sureties ready since Thursday.
Mr Kaunda was arrested and charged with Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm (OABH) in connection with an alleged assault during campaign roadshows in Lusaka.
