A 15 year old girl in Mazabuka District has allegedly caused the death of her 36 year old elder brother by pouring boiling water on him following a domestic dispute at their home.

Southern Province Police Commissioner Moono Namalongo says the victim died on October 17, 2026, after sustaining severe burns allegedly inflicted by his younger sister.

Mr Namalongo says the matter was reported to the police by a 58 year old woman from CDC Compound, who is related to the deceased.

He explains that on October 11, 2026, at around 14:00 hours, the juvenile suspect was at their home in Plan 2000 Compound, Mazabuka District, preparing to cook nshima when her elder brother allegedly arrived in a drunken state.

The deceased is said to have started insulting his younger sister and attempted to assault their 60 year old mother.

Mr Namalongo says the juvenile allegedly became upset, picked up a pot containing boiling water from a brazier and poured it on her brother, leaving him with severe burns.

The victim was subsequently rushed to Mazabuka General Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment.

However, he died on October 17, 2026, at around 21:00 hours and was pronounced dead by a medical officer.

The police commissioner says the matter was reported after the informant learnt of the circumstances surrounding the victim’s death.

The 15 year old suspect has since been detained in lawful police custody in connection with the case.

The deceased’s body is lying in the Mazabuka General Hospital mortuary, awaiting a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.

Meanwhile, when visited at the funeral house, the deceased’s mother and brother reportedly denied the circumstances surrounding his death.
