Fifty households in Chilenje Township have been given three days to subscribe to a designated waste collection service or face prosecution as authorities intensify enforcement of solid waste management laws.
The Lusaka Integrated Solid Waste Management Company (LISWMC), in collaboration with Ministry of Health Public Health Inspectors and the National Prosecution Authority, launched a joint enforcement operation in the township.
The operation found the 50 households were not subscribed to the designated franchise contractor, Giruth Cleaning Services.
The affected residents have since been issued warning notices and ordered to register with the contractor within three days.

The enforcement comes barely a day after six people appeared before the Fast Track Court for alleged violations of the Solid Waste Regulation and Management Act No. 20 of 2018.
Four of the accused paid prescribed fines and were released, while two Gift Moonga and Thomas Zulu of Chilenje South were remanded in custody.
LISWMC has warned residents that improper waste disposal poses public health and environmental risks and urged households across Lusaka to comply with solid waste management regulations.
