TRUCK VEERS OFF ROAD, DRIVER BURNS TO DEATH

A Zimbabwean truck driver has died after the Freightliner truck he was driving veered off the Chirundu-Kafue Road and caught fire at Kapilingozi Hills.

The accident happened on Monday, September 14, 2026, around 17:00 hours.

According to Zambia Police Assistant Public Relations officer Timothy Malumo,the driver was travelling from west to east when he allegedly failed to negotiate a curve due to excessive speed.

The truck subsequently veered off the road, hit a hill and skidded onto its right side before catching fire.

Police say the driver sustained fatal injuries and was burnt beyond recognition.

He was pronounced dead upon arrival at Mtendere Mission Hospital, where his body has since been deposited in the mortuary awaiting identification and postmortem.

The truck and trailer were extensively damaged, with the truck’s horse burnt to ashes.

Police have since urged motorists, particularly long-distance drivers, to observe speed limits and exercise caution when negotiating curves and hilly sections of the road.
