BROADCASTERS WARNED AGAINST PREDICTING ELECTION OUTCOMES – IBA

.

The Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) has warned broadcasters against airing predictions of election outcomes as Zambia heads to the polls this Thursday.

The Authority has also reminded broadcasters that no new opinion poll results may be broadcast before the close of polling.

Speaking during a press briefing, IBA Director General Webster Malido said broadcasters airing opinion polls within the permitted period must disclose key information, including the source of the poll, the organisation that conducted it, the sponsor, the date it was conducted and the margin of error.

Mr Malido said broadcasters may provide updates on the progress of voting, counting and tallying, but should refrain from announcing speculative, projected or unverified results.

He said election results should only be broadcast once they have been officially announced by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ).
