
Police in Lusaka, Thursday, July 16, 2026, allegedly attempted to stop a National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) roadshow campaign in Kalingalinga.
The roadshow was led by the party’s presidential candidate, Brian Mundubile, and his running mate.
The incident follows the Government’s declaration of a five-day period of national mourning following the death of former Vice-President Dr Guy Scott, who died on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.
Police used teargas canisters to disperse several NRPUP supporters leaving several injured.
The Zambia Police Service is expected to issue a detailed statement on the matter in due course.
Fourteen presidential candidates are contesting the 13 August 2026 General Election. They include UPND President Hakainde Hichilema, Citizens First President Harry Kalaba, Leadership Movement President Dr. Richard Silumbe, Socialist Party President Dr. Fred M’membe, Independent candidate Given Katuta, Zambia Must Prosper President Kelvin Bwalya Fube, Organised People’s Party President Brian Mushimba, Liberal Democrats Party President Xavier Frankling Chungu, Chansa Given of the Movement for Economic Emancipation, Kunda Howard of ZAWAPA, Ackim Njovu of the Democratic Union, Daniel Pule of the Christian Democratic Party and Richwell Siamunene of the NFP
