The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has suspended, with immediate effect, all campaign activities for the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) in Kaputa Constituency following violent incidents linked to the party.
According to a statement issued by ECZ Chief Electoral Officer Brown Kasaro, the Commission says the decision follows the party’s involvement in acts of political violence that resulted in the death of a member of another political party.
The suspension will remain in force pending a full review by the Commission.
The ECZ has also expressed concern over another fatal incident in Chivuna Village of Magoye East Constituency in Mazabuka District, where Stanley Sakala lost his life.
The Commission says it is awaiting a conclusive report from the Zambia Police Service before determining the appropriate course of action.
Meanwhile, the Commission has urged all political parties and independent candidates participating in the 13 August General Election to uphold law and order and strictly adhere to the Electoral Code of Conduct during campaign activities.
The ECZ has warned that it will not hesitate to invoke its powers under the Electoral Process (Amendment) Act No. 12 of 2026 against any political party or candidate found to be in breach of the law.
