ECZ URGES RESPONSIBLE ELECTION REPORTING AS MEDIA TRAINING OPENS IN LUSAKA

.

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has called on journalists to uphold professionalism, accuracy and impartiality in their coverage of the 2026 General Election at a three-day provincial media training workshop ahead of the August 13 polls.

Speaking on behalf of Provincial Electoral Officer Charlston Hamulyata, Senior Local Government Officer Joshua Nkole says the media remains a key stakeholder in strengthening democracy through the provision of timely, factual and balanced information to citizens.

Mr. Nkole notes that the training is aimed at equipping journalists with a better understanding of the electoral legal framework, electoral procedures, key timelines and the Commission’s operational processes to enhance accurate and responsible election reporting.

He further emphasized that the nationwide training forms part of ECZ’s broader media engagement strategy to promote transparency, credibility and public confidence in the electoral process before, during and after the elections.

The workshop has brought together journalists from various media houses and will provide an opportunity for participants to interact with ECZ master trainers, seek clarification on electoral matters and gain practical knowledge on election coverage.
