A 32-year-old man of Masonde Village in Chief Chipalo’s area in Luwingu District is alleged to have threatened to kill his wife and two young children after a disagreement over having another child.
The suspect, identified as Steven Ndalama, allegedly became angered after expressing his desire to have another child and being told by his wife that their two children were still too young.
According to the report, the suspect allegedly grabbed their three-year-old son and threatened to kill him before the child was rescued through the intervention of the complainant’s mother.
The following day, the suspect is further alleged to have armed himself with an axe and threatened to kill his wife together with their two children before fleeing the area.
The complainant reportedly managed to disarm the suspect and escape before reporting the matter to Luwingu Police Station.
Police have since recovered the axe believed to have been used during the incident and opened a docket as investigations continue.
Northern Division Commanding Officer Simunji Mulonda has condemned the incident and has warned that domestic disagreements should never result in threats, intimidation or violence against family members.
The suspect remains at large and members of the public with information on his whereabouts have been urged to report to the nearest police station.
