A BLOCK OF FOUR HOUSES GUTTED IN MAZABUKA

About four semi-detached houses in Mazabuka’s Changa Changa area have been gutted by fire.

Southern Province Police Commissioner Moono Namalongo said a passer-by identified as Astridah Himwiinga, aged 36, of Changa Changa Compound in Mazabuka District, reported that while passing through Nakambala Compound, she observed a block of houses engulfed in flames.

Mr Namalongo said the incident occurred on May 13, 2026, between 09:00 hours and 10:00 hours in Nakambala Compound, Mazabuka District.

Police say facts of the matter are that on May 13, 2026, around 10:00 hours, Astridah was walking from Changa Changa Compound to Mazabuka Town when, upon reaching Nakambala Compound, she noticed thick black smoke coming from a block of four attached houses. She immediately reported the matter to police via telephone.

Police officers from Nakambala Police Post, together with officers from the Fire Department, rushed to the scene and established that three adjoining houses had been completely gutted by fire, destroying household goods whose value has not yet been determined.

Meanwhile, according to police, all fourth house were successfully extinguished before the fire could spread further, and no property was reported damaged in that unit.

All occupants of the affected houses are yet to were not present at the time of the incident.

The cause of the fire has not yet been established.
