
President Hakainde Hichilema says government expects the electoral Commission of Zambia -ECZ- to ensure it delivers a free, fair, and peaceful election on 13th August 2026.
President Hichilema says elections should not become battles driven by fear or intimidation stressing that democracy depends on credible, peaceful, and transparent elections.
The head of state has emphasized that leadership must promote kindness, law, order, and national unity.
He was speaking at statehouse today when he swore in the new Electoral Commission of Zambia-ECZ Vice Chairperson Major Vincent Mukanda and ECZ Commissioner Zevyanji Sinkala.
The president has since congratulated the two leaders and has urged them to work with integrity to protect citizens’ choices and strengthen governance.
And President Hichilema has highlighted the economic and social damage caused by violence, arguing that peace and education are essential for national development and tax growth.
He has praised government efforts in maintaining stability and restore confidence in institutions since the UPND took over office which has attracted huge investments including USD 12 billion in the mining sector.
And, Major General Mukanda assured citizens and stakeholders that the Commission will strive to ensure that the elections are free, fair and peaceful.
