Police in Chipangali District of Eastern Province have detained eight more people in connection with the murder of a referee, which occurred on Thursday, May 7, 2026.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba has confirmed to Diamond News that among the eight suspects is Mikango United team coach.
This brings the total number of suspects in police custody to 12.
On 7th May 2026, Donald Tonga, a referee in Chipangali District, was killed by Mikango United players and supporters after disputed officiating of a community tournament with a final prize of K5,000
