Three makeshift restaurants and an electronics shop have been destroyed in a fire that broke out at New Soweto Market in Lusaka in the early hours of Thursday morning 14th May 2026.
According to police public relations officer Godfrey Chilabu, the fire, which occurred around 03:00 hours opposite Namununga School, prompted a swift response from police officers and the Lusaka City Council Fire Brigade, who managed to contain the blaze by 04:30 hours.
No injuries or loss of life were recorded in the incident, while the cause of the fire remains unknown.
Police say investigations have since been launched, with the value of the damaged property yet to be established.
