Inflation Drops to 6.8% in April

Zambia’s annual inflation rate for April 2026 has declined to 6.8 percent, down from 7.1 percent recorded in March.

Zambia Statistics Agency Statistician General Sheila S. Mudenda attributed the reduction to favourable price movements in food items.

Ms. Mudenda said annual food inflation for April slowed to 7.3 percent from 7.8 percent in March, largely due to decreased prices of key commodities such as mealie meal, rice, oils and fats, vegetables, and eggs.

However, she noted that non-food inflation rose slightly to 6 percent from 5.9 percent in the previous month. This increase was driven by higher costs in pharmaceutical products, as well as changes in domestic and regional airfares and accommodation services.
