The body of former President Edgar Lungu is expected to be repatriated following the family’s failure to prosecute their appeal despite repeated reminders.
Sources close to the case have told Diamond News.
The sources further disclosed that a criminal investigation into the cause of his death is still ongoing.
The Lungu family had been granted permission by the South African Supreme Court of Appeal to challenge the decision of the Pretoria High Court, which ordered the repatriation of Mr. Lungu’s body for a state funeral in Zambia.
Meanwhile, Zambia’s Attorney General Mulilo Kabesha has told Diamond News that government will issue a statement on the matter soon.
Mr. Lungu died on June 5, 2025, in South Africa, and since his death, his body has not been buried due to an impasse between his family and the Zambian Government.
