The Government has urged a visiting Vietnamese delegation to explore investment opportunities in cashew production in Western Province alongside rice.
Western Province Permanent Secretary Simomo Akapelwa says the region has strong potential for cashew nuts and could benefit from increased cooperation with Vietnam.
He was speaking in Mongu during a meeting with a delegation led by former Vietnamese Agriculture Minister Cao Duc Phat, which is in Zambia to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the agricultural sector, with a focus on rice production.
Mr. Akapelwa says Western Province also has favourable conditions for rice farming due to its environment and water resources, adding that partnerships with countries such as Vietnam will help farmers benefit from improved technologies and expertise.
Meanwhile, Dr. Phat says the visit is aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two countries through the exchange of expertise and experience in rice production.
He says Vietnam has made significant strides in rice production over the years and is pleased to share its experiences with Zambia to support increased productivity and food security.
