The ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) has clarified that it used the raising of hands to elect leaders during the intra-party elections in Eastern Province.
The UPND’s newly elected Eastern Province Chairperson has dispelled allegations that the elections in Eastern Province were undemocratically conducted and that only endorsements took place.
Mr. Peter Phiri has called on the party members to unite and grow the party ahead of elections.
He says the party is open for everyone to join and will be embraced.
Additionally, UPND Provincial Chairman Lucky Matongo stated that most positions at the provincial level went unchallenged, as no one applied to stand for most of the positions held by the incumbent office bearers.
