U.S. TIGHTENS VISA RULES FOR ZAMBIANS

.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation says some Zambians are restricted from entering the United States under new travel measures that took effect on January 1, 2026.

The restrictions affect people applying for immigrant visas and certain non-immigrant visas, including those for business, tourism, education and exchange programmes.

In a public notice issued on October 16, 2026, the Ministry says the restrictions cover B-1, B-2, B-1/B-2, F, M and J visas.

However, some people are exempt, including Zambians who are lawful permanent residents of the United States, dual nationals travelling on passports from countries not affected by the restrictions, and certain diplomatic and official travellers.

The Ministry has advised Zambians planning to travel to the United States to contact the U.S. Embassy in Zambia to confirm whether the restrictions apply to them before making travel arrangements or paying visa fees.

.

It says it will continue engaging the relevant authorities to address the matter in the interest of Zambian citizens.
