UPND EAST CHAIRMAN DECLARES VICTORY IN DISPUTED INTRA-PARTY ELECTION

.

The ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) in Eastern Province has announced that the province has successfully held its intra-party elections.

Some UPND members in the province have described the elections as undemocratic, as there were no ballots cast but mere forced endorsements of the previous committees.

Tension has mounted in the UPND as others feel the intra-party elections are a sham.

Eastern Province UPND Chairman Peter Phiri announced on his official Facebook page and congratulated those elected to different positions.

According to the Provincial Chairman, the elections, which took place in all 15 districts, 20 constituencies, and 205 wards, saw voters reaffirm their trust in the outgoing leadership.

.

He says the overwhelming retention of the provincial executive is being interpreted as a strong vote of confidence in the leadership’s performance and a clear signal of stability within the ruling party in Eastern Province ahead of the general elections later this year.

However, Mr. Phiri has not yet published the new executive members.
