The Zambia Meteorological Department has issued a weather alert following the positioning of the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) across central Zambia, which is expected to shift southwards within the next 24 hours.
In addition, Tropical Storm Gezani, currently over the south-west Indian Ocean, is forecast to make landfall in Madagascar before moving into the Mozambique Channel by 11 February 2026.
As the storm interacts with the ITCZ, warm and unstable atmospheric conditions are expected to intensify, resulting in widespread rainfall across the country, with heavy falls likely between 12 and 14 February.
They warn that flood-prone, low-lying and poorly drained areas face a heightened risk of flash floods, prompting authorities to urge the public to take precautionary measures to protect life and property.
