Mpongwe West Member of Parliament Emmanuel Kasambo has urged farmers in his constituency to prepare adequately for the anticipated El Niño conditions.
In an interview with Diamond News, Mr Kasambo says farmers should avoid selling all their produce to ensure they have sufficient food supplies in the event of drought.
He says this will help them prepare for the possible effects of drought and other extreme weather conditions.
His remarks follow President Hakainde Hichilema’s warning during the official opening of the First Session of the 14th National Assembly that Zambia could experience a Super El Niño, potentially bringing drought and flooding to some parts of the country.
