
Government through the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit-DMMU has donated 550 metric tonnes of food, comprising 500 metric tonnes of maize and 50 metric tonnes of beans to Mozambique following devastating floods that have affected several provinces.

In addition to food aid, Zambia has deployed two aircrafts to support humanitarian operations, following a formal request from Mozambique. Large parts of the country remain inaccessible due to flooding, The assistance follows an appeal by the Mozambican Government for international support.
The consignment was officially handed over at Chanida Border Post, with Zambia’s Acting Minister of Finance and National Planning, Peter Kapala, presenting the donation on behalf of the Zambian Government. Mozambique’s Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Maria de Fátima Manso, received the aid.
DMMU National Coordinator Norman Chipakupaku, alongside officials from both countries, witnessed the symbolic handover and trans-shipment of relief supplies.
Zambia previously assisted Mozambique in 2023 during Cyclone Freddy, providing food and medical supplies, and has again contributed personnel to the SADC Emergency Response Team.
