47 Families Left Homeless After Court Eviction in Sinazongwe

.

In a heartbreaking turn of events, more than 47 families in Kalangwa Village have been left without shelter after a court-mandated eviction stemming from a bitter land dispute that traces back to the year 2000.

Court bailiffs, supported by Zambia Police officers, carried out the eviction, reportedly scattering household goods, including valuable fertilizer stocks worth thousands of kwacha, into nearby bushes. Many belongings were damaged or destroyed in the process, compounding the distress for the affected residents, who now face immediate hardship in one of Zambia’s rural Southern Province communities.

Sinazongwe District Commissioner Nchimunya Siakole expressed deep sadness over the escalation, emphasizing that the families had previously been urged to settle the matter peacefully through dialogue under the guidance of Chieftainess Sinazongwe and local village headmen.

“How a long-standing dispute like this reached the point of forced eviction is truly regrettable,” Siakole said, questioning the failure of earlier mediation efforts.

The District Commissioner has pledged swift action, assuring the displaced families that traditional leaders and government officials will soon convene to explore viable solutions and potential relief measures.

For now, however, the evicted residents remain homeless, their livelihoods disrupted and their futures uncertain amid the ruins of what were once their homes.
