The National Disaster Risk Management Division-DRMD has warned of suspected anthrax cases and environmental pollution reported in Muchinga Province.
National Disaster Risk Management Division Senior Communications Officer Mathews Musukwa says suspected cases have been reported in Mpika, Lavushimanda and Shiwang’andu Districts, where about 40 animals have reportedly died, while 11 people are suspected to have been affected.
He says the DRMD, through provincial and district disaster risk management structures, is assessing the situation and implementing measures to contain the suspected outbreak, protect communities and safeguard livelihoods.
DRMD has since urged members of the public in affected areas not to consume, sell, distribute or handle meat from animals that have died suddenly or are suspected to have died from anthrax.
