Red Arrows head coach Chisi Mbewe praised his side’s resilience after mounting a second-half comeback to defeat Zanaco 2-1 in MTN Super League Week 12 action.
The victory sees the Airmen move three points clear at the top of the table, having previously been level with their rivals. The defeat marks Zanaco’s second loss of the season.
The home side found themselves trailing at halftime after a difficult first 45 minutes in which Zanaco dominated possession and controlled the tempo. Eliya Mandanji’s 27th-minute strike gave the Bankers the lead.
Mbewe admitted his team struggled early on, noting that Zanaco pressed effectively and limited their space, which led to the opening goal.
The coach revealed that the halftime team talk focused on a mental reset, urging his players to change their mindset for the second half.
Red Arrows’ late surge proved decisive, with Joseph Phiri equalizing in the 80th minute before Paul Katema striking the winner five minutes later.
Mbewe expressed satisfaction with how his team fought back to secure what he called a crucial victory.
