The Zambia Senior Men’s National Team have suffered a 3-1 defeat to South Africa in an international friendly match played at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
Appolis Oswin opened the scoring for the hosts just two minutes before the half-hour mark, before Nkota Mohau doubled the lead in the 61st minute.
South Africa added a third six minutes later through Sithole Sphelele, but Zambia’s Joseph Sabobo Banda pulled one back in the dying moments of the game.
Speaking after the match, Chipolopolo assistant coach Perry Mutapa said the fixture provided a valuable opportunity for young players to showcase their abilities, adding that the technical bench remains focused on building a strong squad ahead of the AFCON.
South Africa Head Coach Hugo Broos described the match as a relatively soft encounter due to its low tempo, also noting his own inclusion of young players.
Zambia played the match without head coach Moses Sichone and other players, who were ruled out due to suspected food poisoning.
