lawyer for incarcerated Tonse Alliance Secretary General Raphael Nakacinda, Jonas Zimba, says his client’s bail application pending appeal has high prospects of succeeding.
This comes after the high court upheld Nakacinda’s 18 months in prison imposed by the surbodinate court for defamation of the president on October 21, 2025.
Nakacinda was convicted for making remarks alleging that President Hakainde Hichilema had summoned judges to his house to devise a plan to frustrate the Patriotic Front (PF) and establish a one-party state.
Zimba stated that the defense has presented its arguments and is confident that the appeal will succeed.
Justice Anna Ononuju, who heard the arguments in chambers, has set November 10, 2025, as the date for delivering the ruling.
Nakacinda has appealed his 18-month prison sentence for defamation of the president before the Court of Appeal.
PF, Tonse alliance acting Chairperson Given Lubinda, and other party members showed up at the high court grounds in solidarity to Nakacinka who was however not before court.
