The Lusaka City Council has disclosed that it has no records of Kamwala Lubarma Market Traders paying levies or taxes.
Lusaka City Council Assistant Public Relations Manager Bulumba Nyambe Mangelo says whatever taxes and levies were being paid by the traders did not go into the council’s coffers.
He says unscrupulous individuals had been impersonating council officers to collect levies from the illegal market.
And the traders whose stalls were demolished by the LCC have presented their garbage collection receipts, stall occupancy permits and offer letters.
LCC demolished over 200 stalls in Kamwala Market behind Big Moze on Sunday following a court order that was obtained by the landowner.
