Unknown people have cut and stolen ZESCO cables in Ellain Brittel compound, Southern Zambia leaving several houses out of power.
The affected residents who discovered the theft in the morning, suspect that the incident took place in the early hours of today when it was raining.
They have since called on the power utility company to reinforce security in transformers to protect the areas against vandalism.
Meanwhile, some have called on authorities to regulate scrap metal business which they allege is promoting such acts.
Others have called for Community sensitization programmes to promote awareness on how the community can report such cases.
Meanwhile, ZESCO is yet to disclose the extent of the damage.
