Police in Lusaka have detained two siblings , an 18-year-old male and his 15-year-old sister in connection with the alleged murder of their 22-year-old cousin, Susan Zulu.
In a statement, Police Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi says the case stems from a report of Conversion Not Amounting to Theft of Motor Vehicle, filed at Kabwata Police Station on September 17, concerning a silver Toyota Axio belonging to the siblings’ parents.
Mr Chilabi says preliminary investigations indicate that the 18-year-old, accompanied by his sister 15 and cousin 22, took the vehicle without his parents’ consent, which
was later involved in a hit-and-run accident along Zimba Road in Madras, seriously injuring an 8-year-old pedestrian, who was admitted to the University Teaching Hospital and remains in critical condition and was involded in another accident along Lumumba Road where it was abandoned.
He says the two siblings returned home on September 21, while their cousin, Susan Zulu, was not seen, prompting their parents to take them to Kabwata Police Station over the motor vehicle case.
Mr Chilabi says during questioning on September 22, the siblings gave information that led officers to Mungule area in Chibombo District, where they were told by members of the public had discovered the body of an unidentified woman around 10 hours on September 21.
The body was later identified by relatives as that of Susan Zulu when taken to the University Teaching Hospital Mortuary.
He says the body bore visible injuries, which preliminary findings suggest may be linked to an alleged physical confrontation between the deceased and the two siblings.
The body remains at the University Teaching Hospital Mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem to determine the cause of death.
