An elephant has killed a 65-year-old woman of Kansele Village in Kalomo District, Southern province.
Son of the deceased, Collins Sianoti, who confirmed the news to Diamond News says the elephant attacked his mother on her way to the garden field.
He says the elephant slayed Mrs. Lute Singuwa, cutting her waist as relatives chased the animal after the old woman had shouted for help.
Meanwhile, an elephant in the same area has killed another person whose details have not been revealed yet.
The residents want government to immediately cage the animals that are terrorizing people in many parts of Southern Province.
In confirming the incident to Diamond News, Department of Wildlife Kalomo District Officer in Charge, Kaunda Banda, says that one of the reasons why the elephants are moving from their designated places is due to the muddy environment caused by floods.
He says plans to take the animals back to the national park are under way.
