TWO ARRESTED OVER CAMPAIGN VIOLENCE IN NORTHERN PROVINCE

Two people have been arrested in connection with an incident of campaign-related violence that occurred in Senga Hill District of Northern Province.

The Zambia Police Service says the incident happened on 13 June 2026 in the Kavumbo area of Malamba Ward and involved an alleged attack on a campaign team belonging to an aspiring Independent Parliamentary candidate for Senga Hill Constituency.

According to police, persons suspected to be UPND cadres allegedly threw stones at a Mitsubishi Canter motor vehicle, causing damage to the vehicle estimated at K5,000.

The police has however confirmed that no injuries were reported during the incident.

Police have identified the suspects as Friday Sinainga, 37, and Agreement Sinyangwe, 22, both of Chandayemba Village under Chief Mpande in Senga Hill District.

The two suspects have since been detained and are facing charges of malicious damage to property as investigations continue.

Meanwhile, the Zambia Police Service has condemned all forms of political violence and reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing the law impartially and without fear or favour, regardless of political affiliation.

The service has further appealed to political parties, candidates, and their supporters to remain peaceful and uphold the rule of law as the country heads towards the 13 August 2026 General Elections.
