Rescuers in Livingstone, Southern Province, are searching for the remains of 23-year-old Lastone Kazwele, who was swept by a current at the famous boiling point of the Victoria Falls.

According to Provincial Police Commanding Officer, Auxensio Daka, the victim met his fate around 12:00 hours when he, in the company of his cousin, Obvious Masulumba, met a group of foreign tourists who were swimming and began taking selfies.

Mr. Daka says it was during that moment when tragedy struck and Kazwele drowned a few meters from the water falls which is on the Zambezi River.

He says rescue efforts are underway to retrieve the body.

In the last three weeks, about six people have drowned in isolated incidents around the country, among them was the death of a father and his two sons, whom he attempted to rescue on Zambezi River, but in the process the trio lost their lives.

As hot weather intensifies, drownings are often reported as many Zambians are drawn to water bodies to escape the searing temperature.
