The government has signed a 25-year-old 79.8-million-dollar agreement for the construction of the 55-kilometer Katete-Chanida road and border infrastructure under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) in Eastern Province.

Apart from financing the project, the concessional agreement will also cater for the design, operation, maintenance, and transfer of 55 kilometers of Katete-Chanida Road and border Infrastructure.

Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, Charles Milupi, has hailed the project saying it will create 300 direct jobs.

The Zambian Concessionaire, Lutembwe Construction Company Limited says the project will run for the next 25 years in which the first 2 years will be for the construction.

The Scope of work includes the construction of a toll plaza, four bridges, 25 housing units, 200 truck capacity parking bay, a filling station, and a Police post.
