The latest Auditor General report on the government payroll audit between 2017 and 2021 has revealed that the Zambia Police Service wrongly paid housing allowances in amounts totaling to 8 million kwacha to 596 officers who are accommodated in institutional houses.
This is contrary to the Public Service Management Division (PSMD) which stipulates that housing allowances should be paid to officers not accommodated by government in standard or pool houses.
According to the report as at July 31st, 2022, the allowances had not been recovered.
Further, the report has revealed that five officers with fake National registration numbers, drew salaries in amounts totaling K68, 000 during the period January 27 to August 2021.
