Police in Ndola have confiscated a firearm with 12 rounds of ammunition from Ndola City Mayor, Jones Kaliati after he allegedly threatened to shoot his wife.

Over the weekend Police arrested and charged Ndola Mayor, Jones Kalyati with two counts of threatening violence on his wife Bernadette Mwape Kaliati and going armed in a public place.

The two had a marital dispute on a Friday night at Hot Stone Bar and Restaurant in Ndola’s Dola Hill, where Mr. Kaliati produced a pistol and threated to shoot his wife and friends amidst a heated argument.

After the incident Mrs. Kalyati reported the matter to Twapia Police Post, while Mr. Kaliati reported himself to Ndola Central Police Station Saturday where a warning and caution statement was administered and arrest made.

Mr. Kaliati says he cannot kill his wife over an argument, adding that the firearm is meant for personal security.
