Police have apprehended a suspect, Stamina Moken 40, of Linda Compound, in connection with the violent incident that left journalist Alphonso Kasongo injured, on Sunday 19th ,2026.
His arrest follows a disturbance at a meeting attended by party supporters, where tensions escalated after unknown individuals began throwing stones at attendees.
In a statement, Police Public Relations Officer Mr. Godfrey Chilabi says the situation turned chaotic when some individuals allegedly apprehended a man suspected of throwing stones and began assaulting him.
He explained that during this incident, Alphonso Kasongo, a journalist with Power News Network, was attacked by suspected UPND supporters while recording the events, resulting in injuries.
He adds that investigations have since been intensified, with officers actively pursuing other suspects who are currently on the run.
The police have assured the public that all those involved will be apprehended and brought before the law.
