Zambia’s first indigenous Air Force Commander, Lieutenant General Peter Dingiswayo Zuze, has died following an illness.
In a statement, The Zambia Air Force says Lieutenant General Zuze died in Lusaka on Monday, 14 September 2026.
He was an accomplished pilot and distinguished military leader who played a key role in the early development and transformation of the Zambia Air Force.
Lieutenant General Zuze became the first indigenous Zambian to command the Air Force, helping to lay the foundation for the modern service.
The Zambia Air Force says his leadership, patriotism, professionalism and dedication to national service will remain part of the institution’s history.
ZAF Commander Lieutenant General Oscar Msitu Nyoni has expressed condolences to the late general’s family, relatives, friends and the wider Air Force community.
Funeral and burial arrangements are expected to be announced later.
Lieutenant General Peter Dingiswayo Zuze’s death marks the loss of a pioneer who played a significant role in Zambia’s military history.
