The Local Government Elections Tribunal has ordered the Electoral Commission of Zambia-ECZ to produce documents sought by NRPUP Lusaka mayoral candidate Gabriel Kibombwe in his challenge against Mwewa Chitambala’s election.
The Tribunal has also directed the ECZ to make available a witness for cross-examination, despite the Commission having earlier closed its case without calling a witness.
The documents relate to alleged differences in polling station records, which Mr. Kibombwe says are relevant to his petition.
The Tribunal says the ECZ had earlier undertaken to provide the documents and make the witness available, an undertaking which guided the proceedings.
It has ordered that the documents be produced by 14 hours today and the witness made available for cross-examination, with the Tribunal aiming to conclude the case today.
