HH WARNS AGAINST ELECTORAL VIOLENCE, DEMANDS ARRESTS OF PERPETRATORS

President Hakainde Hichilema has warned that Government will not tolerate electoral violence and lawlessness, stating that all those involved in disrupting the electoral process will face the full force of the law.

In a statement issued following incidents surrounding the filing of nominations, President Hichilema has described scenes circulating on social and other media of individuals attempting to block lawful nomination processes as unacceptable, undemocratic, and a violation of the rule of law.

The Head of State says he expects law enforcement agencies to act swiftly and professionally in arresting all those responsible, regardless of their political affiliation or social standing.

President Hichilema has stressed that Zambia is governed by laws and not by intimidation, violence, or mob conduct.

He has further warned that anyone attempting to test Government’s resolve in maintaining law and order would face decisive action from the State.

The President has reiterated Government’s commitment to firmly dealing with all forms of electoral violence and disorder.
