President Hakainde Hichilema has reappointed Vice President Mutale Nalumango as Vice President of the United Party for National Development (UPND), reinforcing continuity in the party’s leadership following its recent General Assembly.
The reappointment, contained in a letter dated April 21, 2026, is made pursuant to Article 56(4) of the UPND constitution, with President Hichilema formally notifying Mrs Nalumango of his decision and commending her for what he described as a well-deserved appointment.
Mrs Nalumango, who has held the position since the 2021 general elections where she served as the party’s running mate, is expected to continue playing a key role in steering party affairs.
President Hichilema has expressed confidence that she will execute her duties diligently and prudently in service of both the party and the Zambian people, as the UPND positions itself for the upcoming general elections.
