Opposition Patriotic Front Presidential aspirant, Chishimba Kambwili has been jailed five months with hard labour by the Kasama Magistrate Court.

This is in a case, Dr. Kambwili was taken to court for using hate speech against the Tonga Speaking people of Southern Province, contrary to section 70 of the Penal Code chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

Particulars of the offense are that on dates unknown, but between July 21 and August 8, 2021 in Kasama District of Northern Province, the 54-year-old politician allegedly, willfully and unlawfully did express words of hatred and ridicule against the Tonga people, because of their tribe and origin and encouraged regional voting.

A sombre Dr. Kambwili was led to a holding cell awaiting transportation to the prison, as his family and supporters watched.
