Farmers in Mansa District have expressed concern over the continued delay in the announcement of this year’s maize floor price and the commencement of maize purchases by the Food Reserve Agency (FRA).
A Diamond TV visit to the Fibale Satellite Depot in Mansa found more than 200 farmers guarding their maize at around 22:00 hours Tuesday.
The farmers say many of them have remained at the depot for more than a week awaiting the start of the buying exercise.
However, the Food Reserve Agency has attributed the delay to the high moisture content in much of the maize delivered, stating that it has not yet met the required moisture standards for purchase.
